Characteristics

Leaf narrowly linear, 60–100 × 1.5–2 mm, densely hairy. Flower stem 80–160 mm tall, slender, wiry, hairy, 1–3-flowered. Flowers 10–12 × 15–20 mm, sometimes not opening or opening only partially, creamy green to yellowish green internally, externally greenish brown with numerous glands; labellum white to pink with red-purple bars and purple-black calli, midlobe dark reddish purple to nearly black; column greenish with red markings. Dorsal sepal incurved, 7–11 × 2–3 mm. Lateral sepals 7–11 × 2–3 mm, widely divergent. Petals 7–10 × 1.5–2 mm, spreading or upcurved. Labellum 5–6 × 4–4.5 mm; lateral lobes entire; midlobe recurved, with 4–6 pairs of purple-black marginal teeth. Calli crowded, in 4 rows to apex. Column 6–6.5 × 2–2.5 mm, narrowly winged.

Widespread, but disjunct and localised; mainly occurring near the coast in heathy forest and shrubby forest in freely draining sand, but also extending into tablelands and mountains, growing among shrubs in open forest and woodland in loam; occasionally in moss pads in moisture-retentive soil close to swamps.
