Characteristics

Clustering climbing palm to 25 m tall; stems to 3 cm diam. Leaves cirrate, to 5 m long (including cirrus); leaf sheaths unarmed or very sparsely armed in mature plants, pale bluish green; petiole 7–9 cm long, c. 2 cm wide; rachis flat adaxially, sparsely spiny. Pinnae 13–23 each side of rachis, regularly arranged, broadly lanceolate, to 70 cm long, to 12 cm wide, acuminate, firmly papyraceous, glossy dark green adaxially, lighter green abaxially, with prominent midrib. Staminate and pistillate inflorescences to 2 m long; lateral branches distichous, to 30 cm long. Staminate flower to 3 mm long. Pistillate flower to 4 mm long. Fruit globose, to 14 mm diam., straw-coloured.
