Characteristics

Shrub to 10 m tall. Branches spreading to erect. Leaves 3-4 mm long on ultimate branchlets, green; dorsal surface acutely keeled. Male cones solitary. Female cones solitary or grouped on stout, often clustered fruiting branchlets, depressed-globular, 10-15 mm diam., persistent and holding seeds for several years after maturity; cone scales 6, thick, not separating near base, incurved after opening; dorsal point vestigial or absent; alternate scales reduced; larger scales apically broadly obtuse; columella usually simple and apically 3-angled, 3 mm high. Seeds usually 6, chestnut-coloured; wings 1 or 2, unequal; largest c. 3 mm wide.
