Callitris macleayana (F.Muell.) F.Muell.

Tree to 30 m tall. Branches spreading. Leaves 2–3 mm long on ultimate branchlets, dark green; dorsal surface obtusely keeled. Juvenile foliage often persistent on mature plants. Male cones solitary, oblong, to 8 mm long. Female cones solitary on stout, often glaucous, fruiting branchlets, ovoid to conical, acuminate, 20–30 mm diam., persistent and holding seeds for several years after maturity; cone scales 6 (8 in cones borne on persistent juvenile shoots), thick, with a small dorsal point below the tapered apex, not separating near base, remaining incurved after opening; alternate scales not reduced; columella short, usually 3-partite (4-partite in cones with 8 scales), to 2 mm high. Seeds few, chestnut-coloured, with 1 wing to c. 10 mm long.

Found either in pure stands or in association with various sclerophyll tree species, often at the margin of rainforests. It is generally restricted to poorer soils and favours gullies, moist slopes and ridgetops.

Can be grown by seedlings.
