Characteristics

Large terrestrial ferns. Rhizome creeping to suberect, often spreading by stout stolon-like branches; apex hairy. Fronds monomorphic, erect to arcuate, long-stalked. Stipe hairy. Lamina broadly triangular, 3–4-pinnate; basal pinnae longest; ultimate segments shallowly lobed or toothed; rachises with confluent grooves; venation simple. Sori marginal, terminal on veins. Indusium bivalved; outer indusium cup-like or (in C. dubia ) as an extension of the lamina; inner indusium membranous, often with ciliate margins; paraphyses present.
