Characteristics

Tree to 30 m or shrub to 3 m high. Terminal bud sublinear, 4–15 mm long, uppermost axillary buds 0.5–3 mm long. Twigs pilose. Leaves discolorous when dry; petiole 1–2 mm wide, pilose; lamina ovate to elliptic, (2–) 4–15 cm long, (1–) 1.5–4 cm wide, base rounded, cuneate or truncate, apex acute or acuminate, midvein from above lamina base to midpoint raised, with or without raised margins, pilose hairs on both surfaces, especially along midvein, near margins and base. Inflorescence axes tomentose or pilose, unbranched. Pedicel 3.5–16 mm long, puberulent to pilose. Flowers 8–12 mm diam., white to cream; tepals 4, outer tepals broadly ovate; stamens 30–40, up to 2.5 mm long, anthers oblong 0.7–1 mm long; style c. 2 mm long; stigma peltate or funnel or trumpet-shaped, about 1.1 mm diam. Fruit ovoid to ellipsoidal, apex acuminate or apiculate, 7–11 mm long, 5–9 mm wide. Seeds curved.
