Characteristics

Large polygamous tree to 35 m tall; trunk often buttressed; sap yellow, sticky. Leaves elliptical oblong or obovate, 11-20(-30) cm long, 5-9 cm wide, apically rounded, emarginate or retuse, basally obtuse or rounded, the costa prominent to the tip, minutely puberulent, slightly elevated above, conspicuously elevated beneath, the lateral veins evident, ribs (veins and ducts) (22-)25-30 per cm, the margins sometimes drying slightly revolute; petioles 2-4 cm long, drying sulcate. Inflorescences sometimes numerous, short racemes to 4 cm long, flowers 1-3 (-4) at a node, bracts wanting, bracteoles obsolete; pedicels to 5 cm long, the rachis minutely reddish puberulent. Flowers yellowish; sepals 4, rotund, 6-8 mm long, the outer pair wider; petals wanting; stamens 10-12, the filaments ca. 2 mm long, the anthers about as long; ovary ovoid, the style ca. 2 mm long, and shorter than the ovary, the stigma peltate. Fruits globose or ellipsoidal, ca. 3 cm across, often apically umbonate and sometimes apiculate; drying slightly rough, glaucous, the locule occupying more than half of the interior, the corky layer of endocarp thin; seed 1, ellipsoidal.
