Characteristics

Plants stout, acaulescent. Leaves long-petiolate; blade broadly flabellate, divided into 3 wedge-shaped segments, each in turn subdivided into numerous acuminate sectors, about 1 m. broad and long; petioles rather slender, 1.5-2.0 m. long. Peduncles stout, 40-50 cm. long; spathes 4, congested immediately below the spadix; spadix narrowly cylindrical, 11-12 cm. long, 1.5 cm. thick; fruiting perigonial lobes-very narrowly lance-trigonal, acuminate, 7-8 mm. long, some-what foliaceous, far surpassing the pistil.

The leaf stalk is 2.5 m long. The flowers are on a fleshy spike. Male and female flowers are alternate in spirals. The male are in clusters of 4 and the female flowers are sunk into the flower stalk. The fruit is oval to round. They are 1 cm long and bright orange. There are many oval seeds 2 mm long.
