Evergreen shrub or tree, up to 15 m high. Branchlets subangular, becoming terete. Bark with layers of yellow pigment revealed when exposed. Leaves opposite, leathery, dark green above, paler below; lamina elliptic to obovate, 20-45(-75) x 10-30(-40) mm, apex rounded to emarginate, base cuneate, margins glandular-crenate; petioles 4-8 mm long. Inflorescences axillary, 10-20-flowered cymes; peduncle ± 10 mm long. Flowers 4-or 5-merous, whitish. Sepals ovate, 1.5 x 1.0 mm. Petals oblong, ± 2.5 x 1.5 mm. Stamens arising from disc. Ovary 2(3)-locular. Fruit baccate, spherical, ± 10 mm in diam., brown to purplish when ripe.
