Characteristics

Scandent shrub; young branchlets puberulous, with entire, narrow scales near base. Leaves: lamina elliptic or lanceolate to ovate, obtuse or acute base, entire or serrate margin, acute or acuminate apex, mostly 5–14 cm long and 2–7 cm wide, subcoriaceous; secondary veins 6–11 pairs; petiole 3–13 mm long. Panicles terminal, puberulous; pedicels articulate, 1.5–5 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate, erose, c. 0.7 mm long. Petals broadly ovate to elliptic, 2–3 mm long, cream or yellowish. Staminal filaments c. 0.6 mm long; staminodes of female flowers similar but smaller. Style c. 1 mm long. Capsule broadly ellipsoidal or ovoid, 5–10 mm long, 5–9 mm diam., 3-valved. Seeds 1–6, ± angular, 4.5–6 mm long, enveloped in an orange or yellow-green aril.
