Annual or biennial herb. Stem simple or rarely branching above, with (1–) 2–4 (–5) internodes below branches, (2–) 8–15 (–25) cm high. Basal leaves usually absent at flowering time. Stem leaves sessile, ovate to linear-lanceolate, becoming larger upwards, 5–25 mm long, 3–10 mm wide, ±acute. Inflorescence a rather open, few-flowered dichasium; pedicels 5–15 mm long. Flowers (4-or) 5-merous, c. 5–10 mm diam. Calyx lobes to 15 mm long. Corolla yellow; tube c. 10–20 mm long, constricted or not below limb; lobes c. 3–5 mm long. Stamens (4 or) 5; anthers c. 1.5 mm long. Ovary 8–9 mm long; style c. 2–3 mm long; stigmas elongate-oblong. Capsule c. 10–15 mm long. Seeds 0.3–0.2 mm diam., reticulate, reddish brown to almost black, opaque.
