Characteristics

Probably a subshrubby herb but lower parts not preserved; stems becoming woody, with spreading hairs and shorter ± adpressed pubescence.. Leaves narrowly elliptic-oblong, 1.5–3.5 cm. long, 3–8 mm. wide, acute at the apex, long-attenuate at the base into 1–5 mm. long petiole (fide Moldenke) or ± sessile, sparsely toothed along the upper half with rather small distant teeth, adpressed pubescent, particularly on the nerves.. Spike 15–18 cm. long, many-flowered, dense save at base; peduncle 1.5–2.5 cm. long; pedicels obsolete; bracts ovate-lanceolate, 6 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, long-acuminate.. Calyx narrowly tubular, ± 1.5 cm. long, 5-ribbed and plicate, with scattered but conspicuous long white setae 1–2 mm. long; teeth unequal, 0.2–1.7 mm. long.. Corolla probably pale but colour unknown, hypocrateriform, the slender tube 3–4 cm. long, widening at the apex, glabrous; lobes unequal, oblong-elliptic or obovate, 4–4.5 mm. long, 2.5–3 mm. wide, obtuse.. Ovary cylindric, ± 1.5 mm. long; style filiform, ± 3.5 cm. long.. Fruit oblong, 4.5–5 mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. wide, the two cocci not separating, reticulate on the upper 1/4, ribbed beneath, rounded at apex and in no way winged, glabrous.
