Low bush or shrub, 25-30 cm tall, with angular sparsely hispid stems; branches and branchlets woody, slender, acutely or obtusely tetragonal, brown, smooth and nitid; nodes annulate, marked by the rather large and prominent leaf-sterigmata; principal internodes 3-20 mm long; leaves decussate-opposite, abundant, sessile or subsessile; petioles obsolete or to 1 mm long; blades chartaceous, uniformly dark green on both surfaces, brunnescent in drying, very nitid (as though varnished), oblong or broadly linear, 9-30 mm long, 1-6 mm wide, sharply acute and often apiculate at apex, attenuate at base, entire or with 1 or 2 small sharply acute or apiculate spreading teeth near the apex, glabrous and glossy on both surfaces or with a very few coarse hairs, profusely glandular and somewhat pustulate on both surfaces in drying, conspicuously 1-nerved; midrib very slender, flat or subimpressed above, very slightly prominulent beneath; secondaries, veins, and veinlets indiscernible on either surface; inflorescence spicate or racemiform, terminal, terminating the branches and uppermost branchlets, 3-8.5 cm long, loosely many-flowered, erect, the flowers loosely imbricate; peduncles obsolete or elongate to 2.5 cm, exactly similar to the adjacent branch or branchlet in color, shape, texture, and glabrescence; pedicels obsolete or filiform and to 4 mm long, glabrous; bracts sessile, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 4-8 mm long, about 1 mm wide at base, acute at apex, hispid along the margins or glabrous; bracteoles usually 2 near the base of the pedicel, subulate, 2-4 mm long, acute at apex, very sparsely hispid along the margins or glabrous; calyx tubular, straight, 7-9 mm long, about 2.2 mm wide at base, gradually ampliate to 3 mm at apex, conspicuously 5-costate and-plicate, hyaline between the narrow ribs, glabrous outside, somewhat pubescent within, its rim straight, conspicuously 5-toothed or-apiculate, the teeth subulate, unequal or subequal, 0.8-1.5 mm long; corolla hypocrateriform, its tube cylindric, 10 to 12 mm long, curvate, about 0.8-1.5 mm long; corolla hypocrateriform, its tube cylindric, 10-12 mm long, curvate, about 0.8 mm wide at base, ampliate to 2.2 mm at apex, glabrous outside, hispidulous in the throat within, its limb 5-parted, the lobes oblong or obovate, subequal, 3-3.5 mm long and wide, varying from broadly rounded to emarginate or retuse at apex, venose; stamens 4, didynamous, the upper pair inserted about 1.4 mm above the lower pair and not quite equaling the corolla-mouth; filaments filiform, glabrous or glandular-puberulent, the upper ones about 1.4 mm long and curvate, the lower ones about 0.7 mm long and straight; anthers broadly triangular, slightly bilobed at base; style capillary, 9-10 mm long, glabrous; ovary cylindric, about 1.4 mm long and 0.4 mm wide, glabrous; fruiting-calyx gibbous, 6-8 mm long, about 3.5 mm wide, glabrous and minutely punctate outside; schizocarp rather broadly oblong, stramineous, 3.5-4 mm long, about 2 mm wide, glabrous, composed of 2 coherent cocci, not separating spontaneously, strongly curved posteriorly, prominently reticulate-sculptured from apex to base; areole anterior, excavated, 2-3 mm long, with a bevelled margin.
