Leaves sessile or somewhat petiolate; lamina linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, up to 10(12) mm wide, attenuate to apex and base, entire, membranous, dark brownish on drying; lateral nerves 1–4 on each side, ascending, slightly prominent beneath.
Spikes terminal, 7–25 cm long, many-flowered, with the calyces appressed to the inflorescence axis; bracts 3.5–5 mm long, lanceolate, attenuate, acute; bracteoles absent.
Schizocarp c. 5 × 1.75 mm; mericarps subcylindric, flattened on the commisural face, the back reticulate in the upper 1/3 and striate in the lower 2/3.
A suffrutex up to c. 40 cm high; indumentum (except on corolla) of minute or very short subappressed, retrorse, somewhat stiff white hairs.
Undershrub, up to 500 mm tall. Leaf blades lanceolate, entire, sessile. Cocci separating spontaneously when ripe. Flowers white.
Stems annual from a woody rootstock, 1–several, branched from the base, erect, slender; branchlets 0 or short.
Filaments of the upper stamen pair 2–2.6 mm long, filaments of the lower stamen pair 0.5–0.8 mm long.
Calyx 8–10 mm long and 1–1.2 mm in diameter; teeth unequal, 0.3–1 mm long, subulate.
Ovary 1.4 × 0.4 mm, oblong.
