Characteristics

Rhizome 40–80 × 8–12 mm, fleshy. Stems pale, 1–2 mm diam. Leaves 3–7, ovate, 25–50 × 12–20 mm, dark green with distinct light band along midrib, shortly stalked. Flower stem 100–250 mm long, hairy, fleshy, brittle, 1–6-flowered. Flowers opening freely, 10–14 × 8–10 mm, white, exterior hairy. Dorsal sepal 7–8 × 4–4.5 mm, porrect, hooded. Lateral sepals 7–8 × 4.5–5 mm. Petals 7–8 × 2–2.5 mm, erect, divergent. Labellum 12.5–14 × 9 mm; base with 1–3 tiny, lobed calli; apex divided into 2 oblong, spreading lobes c. 6 × 4 mm, outer margins toothed.

Environment

Widespread from near the coast to ranges and tablelands, but localised; growing in shady forests, including tall rainforest, monsoonal rainforest, vine thickets and sheltered humid sites in wetter types of open forest, frequently on small rocks amongst accumulated leaf litter, but also among litter in loose soil; occasionally growing on tree roots and in crevices between large rocks and boulders.
