Flowers small, odoriferous; calyx cup campanulate, reduced, truncate or dentate; corolla white, the tube short and broad, villous within, the lobes 5, valvate in bud; stamens 5, inserted in the throat, the anthers dorsifixed, the filaments often exserted, villous at the base; style short, the stigmas 2, obtuse, ovules numerous on an axile peltate placenta. Fruits capsular, small, oblong, dehiscent, septicidally into 2 valves, each valve ultimately divided; seeds numerous, compressed, reticulate, the en-dosperm fleshy.
