Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 4 m high, evergreen, dioecious, rarely monoecious. Leaves: petiole 2–6 mm long; lamina linear-lanceolate to elongate-elliptic, 40–230 mm long, 4–30 mm wide, discolorous; base cuneate; margins dentate to denticulate, with 11–22 teeth per side; tip acute to rounded; venation ± obscure; glands 1 or 2 just above lamina base on adaxial surface. Inflorescences up to 40 mm long. Male flowers: pedicels 6.5–10 mm long; sepals 3, lanceolate-ovate, 1.5–2.5 mm long; stamens 12–15. Female flowers: pedicels 7–9 mm long; sepals 3, ovate to orbicular, 1.5–1.6 mm long. Fruit depressed-globose, 4–5 mm long, 6–8 mm diam. [See also Forster 2007: 455.]
