Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 6 m high, evergreen, dioecious, rarely monoecious. Leaves: petiole 6–40 mm long; lamina cuneate-obovate, elliptic or obovate-oblong, 40–190 mm long, 20–35 mm wide, discolorous; base cuneate to weakly attenuate; margins sinuate to crenulate-dentate, with 12–19 teeth per side; tip acute to obtuse; venation comprising 8–10 lateral veins and weak tertiary reticulate veins; glands 2–5 at lamina base. Inflorescences up to 90 mm long. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–4 mm long; sepals 3, narrow-ovate, 1.5–3.5 mm long; stamens 12–28. Female flowers: pedicels 0.5–2.5 mm long; sepals 3, lanceolate-ovate to orbicular-ovate, 1–1.5 mm long. Fruit depressed-globose, 3.5–4.5 mm long, 6–7 mm diam. [See also Forster 2007: 457–458.]
