Leaves opposite, ovate, 6–10(–15.5) cm. long, 4–7(–15.5) cm. wide, abruptly acuminate at the apex, cordate at the base, entire or slightly undulate, sparsely pubescent above, more densely brown-pubescent beneath; petiole 0.5–1(–5.5) cm. long, pubescent.. Flowers in lax terminal pubescent panicles; peduncles 5–9 cm. long; pedicels slender, 1.5–2 cm. long; bracts linear, (0.5–)1 cm. long.. Calyx cream, 1.6–2(–2.8) cm. long, pubescent, 5-lobed to the middle; tube campanulate, slightly inflated below, 1 cm. wide; lobes equal, lanceolate, 1(–2.2) cm. long, 6–7 mm. wide at base, acute.. Corolla yellowish white, purple-red outside (fide Stuhlmann), and with red or purplish red splashes inside 3 upper lobes; tube (2–)2.5–3 cm. long, 1 mm. wide, shortly pubescent; lobes narrowly obovate or oblanceolate, (0.5–)1 cm. long, obtuse or subacute, spreading or 3 upper reflexed..
