Characteristics

Liane reaching the crowns of 15 m. tall trees; young floriferous shoots blackish-violet, glabrous, covered with pale lenticels.. Leaves elliptic, 15–23 cm. long, 8–13 cm. wide, fairly long-acuminate to ± caudate-acuminate at the apex, rounded at the base, drying dark olive above, paler and punctate beneath, glabrous or minutely puberulous on venation beneath; petiole thickened above the base, geniculate, persistent, glabrous, 3–5 cm. long; venation impressed above, prominent beneath.. Flowers rather small and very numerous in a large pyramidal or ovoid panicle, 24 cm. long, 12 cm. wide, or subcorymbose; peduncle ± obsolete; secondary axes 3–5 cm. long, pedicels or apparent pedicels 2–7 mm. long; bracts filiform, 3 mm. long; youngest parts puberulous.. Calyx rotate-campanulate, glabrous; tube 2.5 mm. long; lobes ovate-triangular, 2–2.5 mm. long, recurved-spreading, acuminate at the apex..
