Leaves usually ternate, rarely opposite, petiolate; lamina 6–19.5 × 3.2–10 cm, usually shorter than twice the width, widest about the middle, elliptic to broadly elliptic, elliptic-obovate or ovate, acuminate at the apex, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, entire or sometimes ± irregularly dentate, sparsely setose-glabrous or sparsely puberulous above and more densely so beneath particularly on the nerves; petiole 1.2–5 cm long, slender.
A subshrub with herbaceous stems to c. 1 m tall, or a scandent shrub to c. 2(9.5) m; herbaceous stems and young shoots longitudinally 4–6-ridged, sparsely pubescent with short crisped antrorse hairs; older stems becoming woody, arching and scandent with petiole bases persisting as short woody obliquely truncate projections, glabrescent, bark grey and lenticellate, lateral branches up to 30 cm long.
Calyx green, 2.5–4.5 mm long, subcampanulate, shortly appressed hairy; lobes 1–2 mm long, triangular, acute.
Corolla white; tube 9.5–14 mm long, narrowly cylindrical, glabrous.
Fruit 7 mm long.
