Succulent sublignose herbs, scandent; stems 2-4 mm in diam., minutely strigose when young. Leaves of a pair equal, elliptic, ca. 1.2 cm long and 7-10 mm wide, obtuse at the base and the apex, remotely crenate to entire, above green, glabrous, green or reddish beneath, strigose, the hairs transparent, 2-3 celled on the petiole, the midrib base and along leaf margins; petioles 2-3 mm long. Flowers solitary; bracts 1-3 mm long, linear, slightly pilose; pedicels 2.5-4.3 cm long, red, reddish pilose; calyx lobes pectinate, 1.0-1.2 cm long, 4-7 toothed, the teeth 2-3 mm long, green, red hirsute; corollas red with lateral and anterior lobes yellow or orange and 2 posterior lobes (galea) darker red, funnel-form, 4.6-5.6 cm long, ca. 4 mm in diam. above the base, becoming ca. 10 mm, slightly contracted at the throat, the outside long red hirsute, the lobed portion of the corolla ca. 8 mm long, the lobes slightly unequal, the posterior pair connate, the anterior lobe reflexed, ca. 5 mm long, the lateral lobes reflexed, rounded, appendages between lobes yellow and 0.5 mm long; filaments yellow, glabrous, the anthers slightly exserted; ovary sericeous, the style yellow, slightly pilose, the stigma bibbed. Fruits not seen. Chromosomes 2n= 18 (Fussell, 1958).
