Characteristics

Messily branched shrublets, up to 400 mm tall. Leaf-pairs succulent, up to 45 mm long, 20 mm diam., shaped like lobster claws and often unequal, internodes up to 30 mm long. Epidermis yellowish green, smooth, spotless, often thickly lined with red at twisting keels. Flowers diurnal, showy, brick-red to salmon, rarely pure yellow. Jan.-Mar., sometimes reblooming in Apr.-May.
