Characteristics

Tufts small, or plant solitary; stem short. Leaves flat, 15-22 cm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, striate, green, glabrous except bristles in 2 ranks on each margin; bristles stiff, 0.7-1.8 mm long, enclasping leaf blade. Inflorescence a simple head, 10-20-flowered; scape 2-5 cm long, softly tomentose, with a scarious bract 2-3 cm long, sometimes leaf-like; inflorescence bracts 1 or 2, scarious, lanceolate, 0.7-2 cm long. Perianth 8.5-12 mm long, yellow; lobes 4-7 mm long, exceeding free part of tube, woolly outside with short, branched hairs and longer, minutely spinulose ones, pubescent inside. Stamens uniseriate; anthers 2-2.5 mm long; filaments 0.2-0.7 mm long. Style 6-8 mm long.
