Characteristics

Tufts to 10 cm diam.; stems short. Leaves terete, grooved, 8-17 cm long, 0.5-0.9 mm diam., green, glabrous except small pubescent bristles evenly spaced along margins. Inflorescence compact; flowers fewer than 10; scape tomentose, 1-3 cm long, less than a third length of leaves. Perianth 4.5-8 mm long, creamy yellow, densely tomentose on all surfaces; lobes 3-6 mm long, spread at 90° to tube, claw-like in fruit. Stamens uniseriate; filaments 0.5-1.1 mm long; anthers 1.8-3.2 mm long. Style 3.3-6.9 mm long; stigma held 2-3 mm above anthers; ovules up to 5 per locule, attached on lower placental surface.
