Characteristics

Climbing shrub hanging over rocks, with slender grey-brown stems to several m. long; all parts of the plant covered with long ferruginous stiff hairs.. Leaves alternate; blades elliptic, 4–15 cm. long, 3–8 cm. wide, acute or subobtuse at the apex, the tip shortly acuminate, ± rounded at the base, the margins repand or double-repand, the teeth ending in ± linear setae 0.5–2.5 mm. long, discolorous, drying dark above and laxly pubescent with adpressed hairs, brownish green or glaucescent beneath and setulose on the nerves; venation reticulate beneath; petiole 0.5–2.5 cm. long.. Cymes terminal, dense, subglobose, ± 3.5 cm. diameter, spreading setulose; peduncle 2.5–4 cm. long; pedicels very short.. Buds with 5 apical tails.. Male flowers: calyx-tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 1.2–1.3 cm. long, not sulcate, the 4–5 lobes short, spreading ferruginous setose outside, adpressed white pilose inside, ending in setiform appendages ± 4 mm. long; corolla yellow; tube cylindrical, 1–1.8 cm. long, glabrous inside, setulose inside; lobes obovate-oblong, 5 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide, with very sparse setae outside; stamens with free part of filaments 5 mm. long, exserted almost as long as corolla-lobes, with some spreading hairs at base, adnate parts with dense recurved hairs; rudimentary ovary 0.5 mm. diameter, glabrous, lacking a style..
