Characteristics

Female flowers with calyx 3.5–5.0 mm. long, narrowly campanulate, irregularly 3–5-dentate, minutely strigose outside, silky inside, hardly leathery; corolla (? whitish) glabrous outside, with some scattered long hairs inside on the upper half of the tube and base of the lobes, tube 4.5–5.5 mm. long, cylindrical, lobes 5, 4.0–4.5 x 1.5–2.0 mm., oblanceolate to obovate, obtuse to rounded at apex, narrowed at base, arching and reflexed at anthesis; staminodes 5, inserted near the apex of the corolla tube, filaments 3.0–3.5 mm. long, glabrous; ovary roughish; style 7–8 mm. long, first-forked at 2–3 mm. and with stigmatic branches 3–5 mm. long, linear, flattened and denticulate.

Leaves alternate; petiole 0.5–4.0 cm. long, covered with short, sharp, ± spreading rigid hairs; lamina 4.5–7.5 x 3–4 cm. on fertile branches, up to 15 x 8 cm. on strong sterile shoots, ovate to obovate, rough to shortly appressed hispid above, ± densely pubescent below, dark brown above, grey-brownish below when dry, acute to rounded and apiculate or abruptly acuminate at apex, obtuse to rounded at base, margins ± undulate and remotely denticulate, papery to leathery, with 4–6 secondary nerves on each side of the midrib, flat or slightly deepened and clothed with short fulvous bristles above, prominent and pubescent below.
Cymes arranged in a panicle 5–8 cm. long, slender, lax, long-pedunculate, with divaricate branches, minutely hispid, terminal.
Large tree probably dioecious, deciduous; branches minutely and densely pubescent, glabrescent.
