Habit unknown, presumably a shrub or tree; young stems fairly densely closely adpressed pubescent with pale hairs but soon glabrous, ± ridged, lenticellate and roughened with nodular petiole-bases.. Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic, 4–13 cm. long, 1.8–6 cm. wide, acute or shortly acuminate at the apex, ± rounded or cuneate at the base, sparsely pubescent with pale adpressed hairs, later almost glabrous save for scattered hairs above and on nerves beneath, drying blackish above, ± discolorous; main lateral nerves rather few, 3–5 on each side; petiole 1.2–2.5 cm. long.. Inflorescences axillary from upper axils, paniculate, ± 10 cm. long but probably more extensive; peduncle 2.5 cm. long; secondary branches 2.5–5 cm. long; ultimate branches 5 mm.; pedicels ± 1.5 mm.; all axes and outside of calyx with similar pubescence to the stems.. Male flowers: calyx-tube obconic, ± 5 mm. long, densely silky pilose inside; lobes ± triangular, 0.5–1 mm. long; corolla white, tube very narrowly funnel-shaped, 5 mm. long, glabrous outside, slightly pilose at the throat; lobes elliptic-oblong, 3.2–3.5 mm. long, 2–2.4 mm. wide, obtuse; filaments exserted 3.5–5.5 mm.; rudimentary ovary 0.8 mm. diameter, ± 4-lobed with few erect hairs at tip; style absent.. Female flowers and fruits not seen.. Fig. 1/4, p. 8.
