Shrub or woody liane 1.8–15 m. tall or long; young branches brown, striate, with pale ferruginous and white hairs, later grey, obscurely lenticellate and glabrous, with short recurved spurs which are accrescent petiole-bases ± 3 mm. long, eventually subtending axillary shoots long after the leaves have fallen.. Leaf-blades elliptic to ovate-elliptic, 2.5–13 cm. long, 2.5–8 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate, rounded or ± subcordate at the base, the margins entire to ± crenate in upper part, ± thin, discolorous, very shortly sparsely pubescent on both surfaces, not scabrid; petiole 0.5–5 cm. long.. Cymes terminal, dichotomous; peduncle and main axes 1–1.5 cm. long, ferruginous pubescent; pedicels 1–2 mm. long, articulate, pubescent.. Male: calyx tubular-campanulate, 5–7 mm. long, sparsely pubescent outside, glabrous inside, with 4–7 teeth; corolla white; tube 4–5 mm. long; lobes 4–5, elliptic to narrowly obovate or narrowly oblong, 4–6 mm. long, 1.3–2 mm. wide; stamens exserted, the filaments 5.5–6.5 mm. long, hairy at the base; anthers 1.5 mm. long; rudimentary ovary minute, under 1 mm. long; style absent..
