Characteristics

Shrub to 4 m high, new growth covered with scattered T-shaped hairs, ± glabrescent with age. Branchlets with prominent leaf scars. Leaves alternate; lamina oblong-lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, c. 2–8 cm long, 6–20 mm wide, cuneate at base, entire or sometimes with 1–3 coarse teeth or lobes on margin, tapering at apex, thin, the upper surface mid to dark green, ± shiny, sprinkled with fine T-shaped hairs (lens needed), lower surface paler, main lateral veins rather faint, slightly raised below, the finer veins invisible; petiole 2–5 mm long. Flowers scented; pedicels 3–8 mm long. Sepals c. 2.5 mm long. Petals usually 4 (–6), c. 5 mm long, creamy to white. Drupe ovoid, 8–12 mm long, 3–5 mm diam., red, crowned by persistent calyx.
