Characteristics

Inflorescence a group of spikes without obvious basal bracts, up to 10 cm. long in flower; peduncle c. 1/3 of the total length of the spike; each flower subtended by a minute deltate floral bract, some of which are also present on the sterile part of the peduncle.

Leaves palmate, coriaceous, up to 14 × 22 cm.; lobes (3)5, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 1–4 cm. wide, with conspicuous midrib, lateral veins and reticulum of veinules.
Tree, up to 11 m high. Leaves simple, palmati-partite; leaflets serrate, lanceolate-acuminate. Flowers green.
Margin regularly serrate (to subentire); apex long-acuminate; base broadly obtuse to deeply cordate.
Stylopodium not well developed, narrowly conical; styles free at the apex for c. 5 mm.
Fruit subglobose with a flattened top, glabrous.
Calyx forming a relatively prominent cup.
