Characteristics

Tubers up to 2 cm. across.. Cataphylls 1–2, the outer ± 2 cm. long, the inner 7 cm. long.. Leaf-blade ovate-orbicular and deeply cordate, up to 8.5 cm. long measured along the midrib, 10 cm. wide, with lobes 5 cm. long; petiole up to 18 cm. long.. Flowering stem up to 26 cm. high, appearing as the leaves begin to unroll.. Stem-bracts 2–3, the lower sheathing, up to 4 cm. long, the uppermost usually free, up to 2.5 cm. long.. Nodes of inflorescence 3–6; secondary peduncles nearly all 2-flowered but sometimes only one flower developing, with the pedicels 4–8 mm. long; floral bracts linear, 2–8 mm. long.. Perianth blue (or white, fide Engler); lobes 10–12 × 3–4 mm.. Anthers linear, 4–5 mm. long; pore terminal; filaments 1.5 mm. long.. Style 6–8 mm. long.. Capsule and seeds not seen.
