Characteristics

Plants twining. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite, also usually with smaller stipule-like leaves in axils; petiole 2--4 cm; leaf blade broadly ovate, leathery, apex shortly acuminate, base rounded or shallowly cordate, 3.5--7.5 X 3.5--6.5 cm. Inflorescences usually dichotomous, few flowered racemose cymes; peduncles 1--2 cm. Pedicel ca. 5 mm. Calyx 5-lobed; lobes ovate, ca. 1 mm, glabrous, apex obtuse. Corolla glabrous; lobes oblong, 3--4 mm. Corona cupular, 10-lobed, ca. 4 mm. Gynostegium ca. 1/2 as long as corona. Pollinia oblong. Stigma discoid, head conical at apex. Follicle 1 per pedicel, lanceolate, ca. 7 cm, striate. Seeds flat, circular winged, ovate, woolly, ca. 8 X 5 mm, comose.
