Flowers: inflorescence anthelate; spikelets spicate on rays, often suberect; glumes and nutlets abscising individually leaving a persistent rachilla, wings of rachilla golden-brown, spirally twisted, persistent for a short while after glumes and nutlets have fallen; glumes many per spikelet, reddish brown; Oct.-Mar.
