Perennial herb, up to 0.25 m high; base a narrowly ovate pseudo-bulb. Leaves basal ones ± as long as primary peduncle. Flowers: inflorescence of several completely separate, but closely-packed, sessile spikes; spikelets greenish, olive-green or straw-coloured, abscising as entire units, except for basal sterile glumes; glumes few per spikelet, apices not recurving; Jan.-Mar.
Perennial herb, up to 240 mm tall. Base a pseudobulb. Basal leaves about as long as primary peduncle. Inflorescence a terminal umbel of 3-7 rays. Fruits obovate, 1.4-2.2 x as long as wide. Glumes pale straw-coloured in dried specimens.
