Cyperus panamensis (C.B.Clarke) Britton ex Standl.

Annual, the culms usually stout, 20-50 cm. high; leaves 3-6 mm. wide; bracts large and leaf-like; spikes short-cylindric, sessile or on rays to 6 cm. long; the spikelets greenish-yellow, 3-to 8-flowered, 7-10 mm. long, obsoletely quad-rangular; scales obtuse with a long recurving awn at the apex; stamens 3; achene broadly oblong, 2 mm. long, slightly curved, trigonous with concave sides, dark brown at maturity and densely papillose.
