Flowers: in simple or compound umbels; spikelets 5-10-flowered, very laxly arranged, spreading, ovate to very narrowly ovate in outline, abscising as entire units, except for basal sterile glumes; glumes few per spikelet, 2.6-3.9 mm long, rather laxly arranged, not imbricate at maturity, but spreading from rachilla at an angle of 45°, greenish straw-coloured; Dec.-Feb.
