Perennial herb, up to 0.3 m high; with narrowly ovate pseudo-bulb; nutlets < 3 x as long as wide. Leaf blades developed. Flowers: in a open umbel; spikes cylindrical with densely crowded, green, 1-flowered spikelets; spikelets conspicuously acute, abscising as entire units, except for basal sterile glumes; glumes > 2 mm long with median vein only slightly or not at all excurrent; glumes few per spikelet, apices not recurving, greenish straw-coloured; Oct.-Mar.
Perennial herb, up to 0.52 m high. Inflorescence a simple umbel of 4-6 rays. Spikelets 1-flowered, densely crowded. Fruits narrowly ovate, 1.8-3.0 times as long as wide. Glumes greenish straw-coloured.
