Succulent shrub with subspherical or flask-shaped trunk, 0.4–1 m. tall, with thin, papery, yellowish white bark flaking off in irregular pieces; shoots sparsely branched.. Leaves congested at ends of branches, fleshy, 1–5-foliolate, puberulous; leaflets obovate or cuneiform to subcircular, 2–7.5 cm. long, 1–7.5 cm. wide, emarginate to broadly rounded at the apex, attenuate to subcordate at the base, finely denticulate to coarsely dentate.. Inflorescence 2–7 cm. long, puberulous; peduncle 1–3.5 cm. long; pedicels 0.5–1 mm. long, lengthening to 3 mm. in fruit, with fine subsessile glands.. Buds 1.5–2 mm. long, glabrous.. Calyx 2 mm. wide, faintly lobed, ± puberulous.. Petals dark red, obovate, 2 mm. long.. Style ± 1.5 mm. long.. Fruits red, ellipsoid, 6–9 mm. long, 4–5 mm. wide, glabrous.. Seeds ellipsoid, 5–7 mm. long, 2–3 mm. wide, 3–4 mm. thick; ventral ridge evident, thickened apically, with a raised tubercle on each side towards the base; dorsal side with median groove, very evident at base of seed and with 3–5 rugose tubercles on each side of groove, the lateral dorsal ridges being mere angles; 1–2 transverse ridges on sides.
