Erect ± unbranched herb 60 cm. tall from a tough fibrous rootstock; stems ridged, densely shortly pubescent.. Leaves subsucculent, 5–7-foliolate; leaflets sessile, obovate to oblanceolate, 6–26 cm. long, 2.5–15 cm. wide, round in oudine to subacute at the apex, narrowly long-attenuate at the base, irregularly crenate or crenate-dentate, very shortly pubescent on both surfaces; venation impressed above in life; petiole 11–24 cm. long, with pubescence similar to stems; stipules narrowly triangular-lanceolate, 1.4–1.8 cm. long, 2.5–5 mm. wide, long attenuate at the apex.. Cymes ± 10 cm. wide; peduncle 18–22 cm. long, reddish pubescent like the stems with some short gland-tipped hairs near the apex; secondary axes and pedicels with dense short gland-tipped hairs; pedicels 4–7 mm. long.. Buds green or crimson with green apex, oblong, 2 mm. long, constricted just below apex, pubescent but without gland-tipped hairs.. Calyx under 1 mm. wide.. Fruits bright red, ellipsoid, 1–1.2 cm. long, 7–8.5 mm. wide, shortly pubescent and with short gland-tipped hairs and sessile glands.. Seeds dark, ellipsoid, 9 mm. long, 6.5 mm. wide; ventral face with median ridge strongly raised with smooth groove around it; transverse ridges ± 6, sometimes with some connecting links and irregular areas; dorsal ridges evident with 5–8 raised irregular subattached areas between mid-ridge and laterals; all the raised nodules and ridges are irregularly tuberculate giving a ragged effect..
