Slender climbing herb from a tuberous rootstock ± 3 cm. in diameter; stems glabrescent or pubescent; tendrils slender.. Leaves 3–5-foliolate; leaflets elliptic or oblanceolate to ± obovate, 1.2–6 cm. long, 0.4–3 cm. wide, acute to rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base, serrate-crenate with gland-tipped teeth; slightly scabridulous puberulous above and especially on nerves beneath; petiole 1.2–5 cm. long; petiolules of central leaflets 1–10 mm. long, of laterals 0–2 mm.; stipules lanceolate, 6–10 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide, acuminate, minutely ciliate.. Cymes slender, up to 7 cm. long and wide, terminating short side-branches with reduced leaves, the ultimate cymules rather dense; peduncle 4 cm. long; pedicels up to 4 mm. long, glabrous; bracts red, lanceolate, up to 2 mm. long..
