Inflorescences 2.5–10 cm. long, much branched, terminal or in upper axils; individual cymes ± 2.5 cm. long; bracts and bracteoles linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 0.5–2.5 cm. long, 0.1–1 cm. wide with few long hairs outside; peduncles 2.5–9 cm. long with indumentum similar to stems; pedicels 1–3(–5) mm. long, pubescent and with short glandular hairs.. Buds cream with reddish tip, 2–3 mm. long, constricted just above the middle, pubescent and with short capitate-glandular hairs at the apex.. Calyx 0.5 mm. long, pubescent.. Petals narrowly oblong, 2 mm. long.. Ovary pubescent.. Fruit crimson, globose, 0.7–1 cm. diameter, pubescent and with red gland-tipped hairs.. Seeds reddish brown, ellipsoid, 5–6.5 mm. long, 3.5–4.5 mm. wide, with dorsal ridge, 2 faint lateral ridges and 4–6 quite marked transverse ridges; the ornamentation between the mid-and lateral dorsal ridges varies from faint riblets to cuneiform, Y-shaped or rounded tubercles, 6–7 on either side (see note).. More
Leaves digitately 3–5-foliolate, sessile or with petioles up to 4 cm. long, indumentum like that of stems; leaflet-lamina up to 28 × 8·5 cm., linear-lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, apex acute to acuminate, margin serrate, base narrowly cuneate, ± sparsely pubescent above with short whitish hairs, more densely pubescent below, especially on the nerves, with long whitish hairs and also with sessile scattered discoid glands; stipules up to c. 1·5 cm. long, ovate-acuminate, densely pilose with long hairs especially at the margins.
An erect herb. It grows 60 cm tall. The stems have lines along them. They have hairs. The leaves have 3-5 leaflets arranged like fingers on a hand. The leaflets are 28 cm long by 9 cm wide. They are narrowly oval and have teeth along the edge. The flower buds are cream with reddish tips. The fruit are red and 1 cm across. They are round and hairy. There is one seed 5 mm long.
Cymes terminal or in the upper axils, usually trichotomous but not very wide-spreading; peduncle up to c. 9 cm. long, indumentum as for stems; pedicels up to 2 mm. long but often shorter, pubescent and with short capitate-glandular hairs; bracts and bracteoles linear-subulate, with long hairs on the outside and on the margins.
Erect herb c. 0·6 m. tall or occasionally stems prostrate; stems striate, tomentose with long whitish weak hairs or glabrescent later and also with long slender red patent glandular hairs up to 2 cm. long; tendrils absent.
Flower-bud cream with reddish tip, 2–3 mm. long, constricted just above the middle, pubescent and with short capitate-glandular hairs especially towards the apex.
Seed 1, c. 5 × 3·5 mm., ellipsoid with a dorsal crest and 2 faintly marked lateral crests, remainder minutely tuberculate.
Fruit crimson, c. 1 cm. in diam., globose, pubescent and with long red glasnd-tipped hairs.
Ovary pubescent; style up to 2·5 mm. long, shortly 2-fid at the apex.
Calyx 0·5 mm. long, pubescent.
