Spikelets 3–4-flowered, broadly ovate, 4–4.2 mm. long; lower glume narrowly oblong in profile, 2–2.2 mm. long, narrowly winged and scabrid on the keel; upper glume oblong to narrowly obovate in profile, 1.7–2 mm. long, the keel extended into a stout awn 1/2–3/4 as long as the glume; lemmas narrowly ovate in profile, 2.8–3.4 mm. long, the keel concave and scabrid above the middle, tip cuspidate; palea-keels narrowly winged or occasionally almost wingless; anthers 0.4–0.6 mm. long..
