Characteristics

Tough mat-forming perennial with wiry stolons; culms slender, 35–112 cm. high, ascending.. Leaf-blades flat, tough and usually somewhat glaucous, 4–25 cm. long, 3–6 mm. wide, ± glabrous, acuminate.. Spikelets 3–6-flowered, narrowly ovate, 3–5.3 mm. long; glumes subequal, 1.3–1.8 mm. long, the lower broadly elliptic to ovate in profile, the upper broadly elliptic to narrowly obovate, the smooth keel extended into a stout awn up to 1 1/2(–2) times the length of the glume; lemmas lanceolate in profile, 3–3.8 mm. long, the keel smooth or only very finely scaberulous towards the tip, tip acute, mucronulate in the lower lemmas; palea-keels finely scabrid, unwinged; anthers 1.1–1.7 mm. long.. Grain ± 1 mm. long, transversely rugose.. Fig. 70.

Spikelets 3–5.3 mm long, narrowly ovate, 3–6-flowered; glumes subequal, 1.3–1.8 mm long, the inferior broadly elliptic to ovate in profile, the superior broadly elliptic to narrowly obovate in profile, the smooth keel extended into a stout awn up to 1.5(2) times as long as the body; lemmas 3–3.8 mm long, lanceolate in profile, the keel smooth or only faintly scaberulous towards the apex, acute and mucronulate at the apex in the lower lemmas; palea keels wingless; anthers 1.1–1.7 mm long.
Mat-forming perennial 350-870(1000) mm high; stolons wiry. Leaf blades 40-250 x 3-6 mm. Inflorescence of usually (1)2(3) racemes; racemes 25-70 mm long, diverging. Spikelet 3.0-5.4 mm long; upper glume awn up to 1.5-2.0 times as long as body of glume; lemma apex acute, awnless, mucronate or awn up to 0.4 mm long (often in same spikelet), keel smooth or finely scaberulous; anthers 1.1-1.7 mm long; caryopsis ± 1 mm long, obovate, apex rounded to convex, transversely rugose.
Mat-forming perennial, rhizomatous and stoloniferous, up to 0.8 m high. Leaf blades 40-250 mm long, 3-6 mm wide. Spikelets 3.0-5.3 mm long. Spikes usually 2(or 3), 25-70 mm long; lemma tips acute; anthers 1.1-1.7 mm long; grains obovate, apex rounded to convex.
Tough, mat-forming perennial with wiry stolons; culms up to 120 cm tall, slender, ascending; leaf laminas 4–25 cm × 3–6 mm, flat, ± glabrous.
A grass. It is tough and mat forming and keeps growing from year to year. The spikelets have 3-6 flowers. The seed or grain is 1 mm long.
Racemes (1)2–3, 3–7 cm long, diverging and often somewhat falcate.
