Leaf-blades flat, 1.5–6.5 cm. long, 2–4 mm. wide, glabrous to softly pilose on both surfaces, acute.. Inflorescence composed of 2 (rarely 1) widely diverging, often falcately recurved, linear-oblong spikes 1.4–3.5 cm. long.. Spikelets 3–5-flowered, ovate, 2.3–4 mm. long, very densely imbricate, subtended by conspicuous tufts of hairs a little shorter than the spikelet; lower glume narrowly elliptic in profile, 2–2.25 mm. long, the keel narrowly winged, acute; upper glume elliptic-oblong in profile, 2 mm. long, the keel extended into a short stout mucro 0.2 mm. long or into an awn up to half as long as the glume; lemmas narrowly ovate in profile, 2.2–3 mm. long, the scabrid keel extended into a stout mucro up to 0.5 mm. long just below the acute tip; palea-keels wingless; anthers 0.6–0.75 mm. long.. Grain 0.7 mm. long, broadly obovate in profile, finely granular.
