Intricate bushy shrub 1.8–5 m. tall; bark grey or pale brown, smooth, ultimately thinly flaking.. Branchlets clustered at the nodes, some growing out, others remaining short and not infrequently bluntly spine-tipped, covered at first with small white mostly straight and spreading hairs, soon glabrescent.. Leaves 2–6 cm. long; stipules oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 2–5 mm. long, caducous; lateral leaflets (1–)2–3 on either side of rhachis, oblong-obovate to broadly obovate, 0.8–2.4 cm. long, 0.7–2.3 cm. wide, truncate to broadly rounded or emarginate at apex, cuneate, pubescent on both surfaces; primary lateral nerves 4–6 on either side of midrib, the lower ones ascending to upper half.. Racemes or little-branched panicles appearing with flush of new leaves, (1.5–)2.3 cm. long, the axes shortly ± spreading pubescent to subglabrous; bracts lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 0.5–1 mm. long, caducous; bracteoles near top of 1–1.5 mm. long pedicel, similar.. Calyx 2–2.5 mm. long, puberulous or subglabrous except on margins.. Corolla 5–6 mm. long, white, fragrant; standard oblong-obovate with fairly well-developed claw; wings little shorter than standard and slightly exceeding keel.. Stamens 9, united.. Fruit elliptic-oblong, bluntly pointed or shortly rounded at apex, narrowed to the 0.5–1 cm. long stipe, (2.2–)3–4.5 cm. long, 1–1.5 cm. wide, papery, subglabrous, uniformly and prominently venose, 1–2-seeded.
