Characteristics

Leaves up to 15 cm long; petiole 1–2 cm long, rachis 4–9 cm long, pubescent like the branchlets; leaflets (1)2–3 on each side of the rachis, 1.5–6 × 1–2.5 cm, ovate to elliptic or obovate, rounded or obtuse and mucronate or sometimes emarginate at the apex, rounded or obtuse at the base, thin and stiff, appressed-pubescent and glabrescent upper surface, hairy beneath; stipules 6–10 mm long, falcate, with 4–5 longitudinal prominent nerves, puberulous.

Pod flat, 1–2-seeded, 5–10 × 1.5–2 cm, obtuse or acute at the apex, cuneate to narrowed at the base, coriaceous, pubescent with a mixture of simple hairs and large glandular hairs (or their scars) glabrescent, reticulate, particularly over the seeds.
Standard c.7 mm in diameter, oblong to subcircular, emarginate, claw c.2 mm long; wings obovate, auricle obsolete, claw 2.5 mm long; keel petals shorter and broader than the wings, connate-cucullate at the apex, claw 3 mm long.
Inflorescence of axillary and terminal panicles 3–8 cm long, fulvous-tomentellous with sparse glandular hairs; bracts and bracteoles small, sometimes present at anthesis.
Calyx 4–4.5 mm long, fulvous-pubescent; upper teeth shallow rounded, the lateral ones c.1 mm long, obtuse to acute, the lower one 2–2.5 mm long, triangular-acute.
Unarmed many-stemmed climbing shrub 3–10 m high or occasionally a small tree to 4 m high, with some side branches coiling and woody, tendril-like.
Branchlets and inflorescences fulvous-tomentellous ± densely interspersed with glandular-verrucose prickle-shaped hairs.
Ovary 2–3-ovulate, pilose; style glabrous; stipe short.
Seed 12–14 × 6–7 × 1.5 mm; testa light brown, glossy.
Flowers white, 7–8 mm long; pedicels 1–2 mm long.
Stems and branches long, arching.
Stamens in a single bundle.
