Characteristics

Bushy shrub or small tree, sometimes scandent, 1.3–10 m. tall; bark greyish or brown, striate, ultimately rough and flaking off.. Branchlets rather persistently and densely covered with short appressed or slightly spreading hairs.. Leaves (5–)6–9 cm. long; stipules linear, up to 4 mm. long, caducous but leaving a prominent scar; lateral leaflets 5–8 on either side of rhachis, oblong or oblong-elliptic, up to 1.4–2.6 cm. long, 0.5–1.3 cm. wide, rounded to slightly emarginate at either end, glabrous to thinly puberulous above, conspicuously white appressed puberulous beneath; primary lateral nerves rather few and spreading.. Panicles prolifically developed on leafy branches, laxly branched, mostly 4–9 cm. long, many-flowered; axes shortly pubescent to tomentellous; bracts ovate to oblong, up to 1.5 mm. long, early caducous; bracteoles at top of 1–3 mm. long pedicel similar.. Calyx 4–5 mm. long, glabrous or with scattered hairs on the lobes.. Corolla 6–8 mm. long, white, fragrant; standard suborbicular with well-developed claw, hairy at base of blade inside; wings practically as long as standard and slightly exceeding keel.. Stamens 9(–10), united.. Fruit oblong-elliptic, with short stipe 3–4.5 cm. long, 0.8–1.2 cm. wide, papery, subglabrous, narrowly winged along upper side (peripheral nerve submarginal), venose, 1–2-seeded..
