Characteristics

Tree to 35 m high. Leaves: lamina elliptic, 3–8.5 cm long, 1–3.5 cm wide, attenuate at base, apiculate at apex, initially densely appressed pubescent, glabrescent; petiole 5–10 mm long. Flowers c. 20 mm long, subsessile on axillary peduncles c. 1 cm long. Calyx minutely pubescent with orbicular bracteoles adnate to lower part. Petals broadly elliptic, 8–10 mm long, pubescent. Stamens inserted in calyx tube in 2 series, with small appendages at base of filaments of the inner whorl. Ovary pilose; style 8–10 mm long.
