Planta glaberrima, medio ramis abbreviatis confertis, ramos floriferos elongatos, ad 30 cm. longos, ad 4 mm. diam., anguste 2-alatos, internodiis saepius 2.5 cm. longis, emittens; folia ramorum brevium saepius ad 2 cm. longa, ad 7 mm. diam., cetera ad 3.2 cm. longa, 9 mm. lata diametroque, adscendentia, angulis acutis, carina leviter decurrente in alam caulis, supra lateribusque plana vel leviter concava, lateraliter visa superne gradatim ampliata, parum supra medium latissima, deinde saepe angustata acuminataque, apiculo recurvulo, vel rarius apice subtruncato-obtusa, sordide viridia, basi purpureo-suffusa, vagina ad 1.5 mm. longa; flores solitarii vel 3-nati ateralibus tarde evolutis, diurni, 3 cm. diam.; pedunculi 3-4, 1 mm., vel fructiferi ad 8 mm., longi, intermedii ebracteati; sepala 5, valde inaequilonga, acuminata, 2 longiora ad 1.3 cm., cetera 6-8 mm. longa; petala 4-seriata, series 2 exteriores obtusae vel obscure denticulatae, 1.3 cm. longae, 1.5 mm., vel rarius 2 mm. latae, interiora pauciora acuminata, in staminodia fere erecta, alba vel pallide rosea, ad 6 mm. longa, transeuntia; stamina conico-conferta, ad 5 mm. longa, filamentis albis, inferne roseis, interioribus medio vel supra papillatis, antheris albidis, polline stramineo; glandulae semi-lunatae, inter se distantes; ovarium supra, medium versus, elevatum, sat inconspicue obtuseque lobatum; stigmata subulata acuminata, 3.5 mm. longa; capsula 6 mm. diam., expansa 1 cm. diam.; semina brunnea, fere orbicularia, areolata, 1 mm. diam.

Perennial, dwarf shrublet, with decumbent branches reaching up to 300 mm long, up to 100 mm high, whole plant glabrous, roots thickened, succulent. Leaves with triquetrous margins with acute angles, apex recurved. Flowers solitary or 3-nate, deep crimson with white staminodes. Flowering time spring to late summer. Capsules pale brown, mostly 5-locular, closing bodies absent, covering membranes reduced to a ledge, expanding keels parallel, valve wings broad.
